We LOVE great make-up at Shine! and truly champion all women embracing their feminine energy and beauty with a little help from a colour palette! As editor, I am very fortunate to be sent samples of new mascaras, lipsticks and so on, but I am fussy and happily spend a small fortune personally on makeup – from foundations by Tom Ford to powders by Charlotte Tilbury I do love an indulgence.

However, I have a guilty secret. Despite spending so much on make-up I simply don’t invest the same effort and energy into being so discerning with the make-up brushes I use. Yes, guilty! And I am not alone either. It is a common oversight many of us have – we have an enviable make up kit but a really dodgy collection of tools to apply it all with!

Trust me I looked into purchasing an Hour Glass cosmetics brush set and then realised I could actually fly to Paris for the same price – budget airline but still, come on, why sooo expensive??! Another key issue issue for me is ethics, I don’t want to be applying makeup using some poor animal’s hair or pelt. It is kind of …creepy and not very hygienic after a while.

LAB2 Make-up Brush kits – Charcoal and Green Tea infused – the next generation in applying make-up

So, when I came across Lab2’s range of totally vegan brushes I was already keen to find out more. Best of all, this innovate make up brand, has somehow perfected the quality of their cruelty free synthetic brushes to such a beautiful, soft and effective standard, that I simply don’t know why natural bristles are still used at all.

So, with this in mind I recently trialled them – applying my make-up for three key different looks: morning frenzy (usually applied on the Tube, in the car or generally while running late in the morning!); important meeting/work event and finally, the full glam slam (a night on the town in Manchester).

For each look I required the use various brushes from Lab2’s classic two sets – their broad brush base and powder kit and the slimmer, more technical kit of eye and brow brushes. The BEST thing about the kits is that each is unique with the base kit infused with either Charcoal Powder and in my case, the slimmer kit infused with calming Green Tea Powder, both offering the added benefit of healing for the skin as well as being antibacterial. Now that’s innovation!

Results:

I am thrilled with each kit. The application of my make-up base is certainly improved with the flat palette brush and I am so digging the super soft glide of the fatter powder brushes. I’ve had a top pro TV make-up artist ask me about my brushes when I appeared on the BBC recently and she agreed the quality is seriously good, especially sofor such a reasonable price. I especially love the green tea infused kit because, well, firstly it just looks sooo cool! That zingy lime green and white combo is great and looks very smart in my make-up kit bag. But also because I do have combination skin, these brushes are very gentle on my eye lids and I just LOVE the eye-liner brush with its super pro angle.

So guys, throw away those natural, animal derived brushes and help make them a thing of the past and embrace LAB2’s range. They are great quality, really easy to apply with and yes, they make you feel like a bit of pro when you get your make-up flow on. With the addition of being animal friendly and vegan, they have anti-microbial charcoal and soothing green tea, so they are not only kind our four-legged friends but to your skin too.
